Assignment 6A: Identifying Opportunities in Economic and Regulatory Trends

Opportunity 1: (Regulatory) Plastic Bag Ban a).  There have been a variety of different cities and states that have been trying to impose a ban on plastic items especially plastic bags. I did a research project on this in another class which is what brought the subject to my attention. b).  The thing that leads me to believe that there is an opportunity here is the fact that many companies who use plastic bags are now going to be looking for an alternative and there aren't too many on the market as of now. Also the alternatives that are on the market cost a lot more than the plastic bags these companies are used to. c)   The prototypical customer is going to be grocery stores, shops in the mall and other clothing shops, and restaurants that have takeaway styles. d)   I think the opportunity is relatively easy to exploit since these companies are being forced to look for alternatives rather than having a choice. e).  I think I can see this as a large opportu...

Assignment 5A: Identifying Local Opportunities

Article 1: a) Admission to UF, FSU, other state universities may depend on where you attend high school. b)https://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/florida/fl-ne-college-admissions-high-schools-20190125-story.html#nt=oft12aH-1gp2 c)   Overall the article describes how students in schools in wealthier communities have a better chance of getting into one of Florida's 4 year universities. It gives the statistics of the percentage of students accepted to different universities based on where they went to high school and gives a few suggestions as to why this may be the case. One of their main arguments was that SAT scores tend to have a lower average in low income communities. d)   The problem faced in this article is that the high school students go to might affect their acceptance into a major Florida college. If students go to a lower class school they might have less of a chance in getting into a 4 year university. e)   Highschool students all around Florida have this issue ...

Assignment 4A: Forming An Opportunity Belief

With the technology that we have, sponges should be able to last longer and contain less bacteria than they do. The typical yellow sponge with a green abrasive flip side has been used for decades but is a feeding ground for bacteria. These types of sponges also don't last very long before they start ripping and start to smell. I think it would be beneficial to most households to create a dish sponge out of a material that will be able to last longer and be more sanitary than a typical sponge. This need comes from people who wash their dishes by hand with a sponge. The need has been longstanding since the original sponge has been used for decades. Some companies have tried to create a new for of a sponge but they aren't any better than the original. I am about 80% positive that a new sponge would be beneficial to the general public. Prototypical Customer #1: My Dad    Naturally the first person I thought of that would have an opinion on this topic is my dad. H...

Assignment 3A: Your Entrepreneurship Story

I grew up around the ocean and have always loved it since I was a kid. Once I got to about 8th grade, I wanted a saltwater fish tank. I worked at Publix at that time and was able to afford all of the items necessary to start my tank. I got a used saltwater fish tank from craigslist and set it up in my house. I became very knowledgeable about saltwater fish tanks and their value from looking at them all the time on Craigslist. One day I found another tank that I liked and bought it. This started my hobby of negotiating prices on fish tanks so I would buy them pretty cheap, then I would take the items I liked, and resold the rest for profit. Although I was pretty young, I made a decent amount of money off fixing up and reselling saltwater fish tanks and I got most of the items I needed for free.    I enrolled in this class because I think having an entrepreneur's mindset is extremely beneficial as a business student. I would like to learn how to grow my entrep...

Assignment 2A: Bug List

1) The pre-workout that I use (C4) makes my extremities tingle. The reason for this sensation is the chemical niacin which when present in large quantities can cause the tingling sensation. 2) My apartment complex has one dumpster that you have to walk to in order to throw away your trash. The reason for this might be the cost of having personal trash bins in front of every apartment. 3) When cooking with oil, you have to keep the temperature relatively low so it doesn't splatter out of the pan. The oil splatters when hot because when the food is introduced into the hot oil, water molecules evaporate rapidly causing the oil to splatter. 4) The top of my dish soap needs to be washed out regularly because of soap build-up. This is due to the fact that the soap hardens when exposed to air. 5) The cans of black beans that I have require a can opener in order to get to the beans. This is because it costs more to the manufacturer to include a pull tab. 6) I have to refill ice t...
