Assignment 22A: Elevator Pitch No. 3

2)  A reflection on the feedback you received from your last pitch.   All of the feedback  that I received from my last post was positive and acknowledged that the changes I made from the first pitch enhanced the pitch a lot. I added some facts about how many people went kayaking in 2017 and had a more cohesive pitch. I think that the second pitch was a lot better than the first because I already knew what I wanted to say and made it more conversational rather than formal. 3)  What did you change, based on the feedback?     Based on the feedback from the last pitch, I did not change too many things. I added the uses for my product such as how it can be used both residentially as in it can be bought by the general public and commercially such as through kayak rental companies. I think my second pitch was better than this one for the sole purpose of that it was a lot more off the top of my head than written down and flowed a lot better....

Assignment 21A: Reading Reflection No. 2

The Art of Social Media: Power Tips for Power Users, Guy Kawasaki 1) What was the general theme or argument of the book?    Throughout the entire book, Kawasaki gave insights into what a company or person should be doing in order to grow the social media aspect of their business or how to network while using social media. It gave many examples of things that are good to implement in your social media profiles and how to curate enough information in order to create or recreate content. They explained things such as how to generate more traffic through your social media platforms, get followers, create content, and how to react to comments and other forms of user communication.  2) How did the book, in your opinion, connect with and enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003?    If there is anything I have learned about being an entrepreneur from this class is that you need to be able to adapt your company or idea to the changing times or else someo...

Assignment 20A: Growing Your Social Capital

Sue Sandelier  1) Who they are and what their background is.    Sue Sandelier is the CEO of a company that produces and sells home playgrounds in South Florida. She started the company with her husband Todd but has since taken over and made it her career. She started the company when she went to buy a home playground for her kids and saw how expensive they were. Her and her husband ended up building their own for less than half the cost it would be to buy one and saw an opportunity. They both enjoyed the process of planning and building the playground and since Todd has a background in carpentry, they were able to build it relatively quickly.  2) Which 'slot' you are filling with each person (i.e., domain expert, market expert, supplier), and how the person fills the spot. Domain Expert: Although this isn't the same type of company per se,  she does however have connections to manufacturers of plastic slides which could give me insight as to how that pr...

Assignment 19A: Idea Napkin No. 2

1)  You.  Who you are. What your talents are. What your skills and experiences are. Also: what are your aspirations? Specifically regarding your business concept, how do you see this business (if you were to start it) playing a role in your life?    As I mentioned in my last idea napkin I am from Fort Lauderdale and have spent most of my childhood on or near the oceangoing various water sports, diving, snorkeling, and hanging with friends at the beach. Over the years one of my favorite activities to do is go kayaking and kayak fishing so I have become very knowledgeable about different kayaks and their accessories. I think if I were to start this business it would be more of a hobby rather than a career because although I am passionate about kayaking, I think that there are other business ventures that I would enjoy more.  2)  What are you offering to customers?  Describe the product or service (in other words, how you'll solve customers' unmet ne...

Assignment 17A: Elevator Pitch No. 2

1)  The pitch https://youtu.be/3YCneFpPeJE 2)  A reflection on the feedback you received from your last pitch. I didn't really receive too much feedback regarding my last pitch so I asked a few friends to give me feedback as well. Between the comments on my post and what my friends told me, they said I needed to clean up the pitch in terms of how smoothly I presented the information. They also told me that I should include facts about how large the kayak industry is.  3)  What did you change, based on the feedback? I changed a lot based off of the feedback I received because the first pitch sounded a little too rehearsed. In fact when you are giving it in real life I think it should be more of a conversation rather than an in person infomercial. I also added some statistics about how many kayakers there were in 2017 (most recent data) and why people might need this product.

Assignment 18A: Create a Customer Avatar

Image
What kind of hobbies does your customer have?  Most of the hobbies  that my avatar has include things that are outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, surfing and other water sports.   What kind of car do they tend to drive? (What color is it?) They would probably drive a larger car such as a jeep or Toyota FJ cruiser so that they're able to strap the kayaks to the roof. The colors would range but they would probably be lighter colors such as white, blue, or yellow.  What TV shows do they watch? They watch survivor shows and other outdoor tv shows.  Do they have children? Are any of them adopted? They may or may not have children depending on the age. Typically if they had children, they wouldn't be able to get out on the water kayaking with them until they were a little bit older.   How old are they? How old do they feel? They range from about 16-60. The age group for kayakers is so large because of how eas...

Assignment 16A: What's Your Secret Sauce?

Describe five ways in which you think you have human capital that is truly unique. 1) I have a really strong work ethic and determination to get the job done. I always put everything I have into my work and I think it shows.  2) I'm a perfectionist. I like everything to be a certain way and if its not up to my standards, Ill work on it until I am satisfied. 3) I am really good at persuading people to see my point of view. This has helped me a lot in the past with different things and I think its useful to be able to explain your mentality and allow others to see your ideas.  4) I can negotiate effectively. I used to buy and sell fishtanks for profit when I was younger and part of that was negotiating. I just remember finally meeting the person I was negotiating with and they were shocked that they basically just got scammed by a 14 year old.  5) I always try to keep positive. I will always look on the bright side of things or if there ...
