Hi! The first article you wrote about is something I can definitely relate to. I went to high school in a small, rural county and even though my graduating class had more than 100 people in it, only 4 of us got into UF. I think that this is definitely a problem. However, I don’t quite see where there is an entrepreneurial opportunity within this issue.
ReplyDeleteThe first article caught my attention. I do not necessarily feel that it really matters where you come from and the financial position of a student in order to get into a Florida University. Some people are not blessed and if they really want to achieve success they might have to work a little harder than others that are given it. My high school had around 2800 students and only 8 people got into UF. I feel that it comes down to more of the drive of the student and how bad they want it. Schools offer tons of scholarships that student can get to get extra money for college.
ReplyDeleteI think the first article is super interesting, too. On the student side, I'm not sure that where you go to high school matters. If you have the credentials to get into a 4-year college right out of high school like those mentioned then you probably have some type of major scholarship, grant, or backer working for you. I definitely agree with Chase that if you want it, it probably doesn't matter where you come from.
ReplyDeleteWith that being said, if the colleges are somehow screening applicants differently because of what area they grew up in...I certainly don't agree with that. Everyone deserves a fair shot, and if you have the credentials then why not?
