Assignment 11A: Idea Napkin No. 1
1) You: I bought my first kayak when I was 14 years old and would take them in the lakes near my house. Once I got a little older I started taking them to the beach and mangroves and eventually out into the ocean. I use them for many different occasions such as cruising and fishing so I know a lot bout the different types of kayaks and their uses. I think If I were to start this business concept, it would be more of a hobby rather than a full time job.
2)What are you offering to customers?
I am offering my customers the luxury of more space and fishing capabilities to have on their kayak trips. Many people can think of things they would like to bring on the trip but can't because of weight or space restrictions. My product fixes these issues as well as offers additional benefits such as the waterproof speakers and live well.
3)Who are you offering it to?
My main market would be the kayak community but could be extended to all human powered watercraft vessels. All my customers have a love for the water and a small vessel that has limited space.
4)Why do they care?
Most people who have kayaks and other human powered vessels know that there isn't much room for excess belongings and the more you bring on board, the harder it will be to paddle because the boat will be lower in the water thus causing more drag. In order to bring more items they will need a product like the kayak party pack.
5)What are your core competencies?
I have only seen one product like this and it only has one feature, a dry well. It is pretty small and only offers one of the services that the kayak party pack offers.
Overall, I think the product has a relatively small customer base because although kayaking is a large sport and leisure activity, not too many people use them regularly enough to buy a separate product. That being said, I think that the community who does use their kayak regularly for fishing and such activities, would really benefit from a product like this.

Daniel,
ReplyDeleteI might have read the instructions wrong but I thought we were supposed to sketch out a picture of our business on a piece of paper. Whatever. I really do enjoy reading all of the stuff about you and what made you continue with your business idea. Keep grinding.
Hey, 8020 rule! Small group of customers you're focusing on! I feel like people who vacation a lot would like this. People chilling on inflatable rings (pool donuts) could also like your product. It's cool to know that you've looked up your potential product and know the current competition. Maybe you could expand on the "who" part to include psycho-characteristics.
ReplyDeleteHi Daniel, thank you for your post. I think a great thing about your product is that with a history of kayaking you have a personal connection to your product. This shows that you know for a fact there is an unmet need that your product could satisfy. Also, I think that when entrepreneurs are connected with their product it means they will be more successful in selling it. Great Post!
