Assignment 16A: What's Your Secret Sauce?

Describe five ways in which you think you have human capital that is truly unique.
1) I have a really strong work ethic and determination to get the job done. I always put everything I have into my work and I think it shows.
2) I'm a perfectionist. I like everything to be a certain way and if its not up to my standards, Ill work on it until I am satisfied.
3) I am really good at persuading people to see my point of view. This has helped me a lot in the past with different things and I think its useful to be able to explain your mentality and allow others to see your ideas.
4) I can negotiate effectively. I used to buy and sell fishtanks for profit when I was younger and part of that was negotiating. I just remember finally meeting the person I was negotiating with and they were shocked that they basically just got scammed by a 14 year old.
5) I always try to keep positive. I will always look on the bright side of things or if there isn't a bright side, ill try to create one.

Interview the five people who know you the best
I honestly could not figure out how to take the voice memos off my phone and send them to my computer let alone attach it to the blog so I will try my best to reiterate the things that they said. The first person I interviewed said that I was a really quick thinker and that I was able to come up with solutions to problems very quickly. She also said that I was very aware of situations in the sense that I see problems arise that not too many other people might realize. The second person I interviewed said that what sets me apart was the fact that I have a strong moral compass. By this, she meant that I am not only in it for myself and my own greed but that I genuinely want other people to succeed. She also said that I help out a lot whenever people ask and I don't really hesitate before lending someone a hand. The third person said that what sets me apart is how hard I work. He said that he's always seen me giving it my all whether it be on the field or in my classes. He also said that I take pride in the things I do. The fourth person said that my calm nature sets me apart from the rest because I typically don't freak out about anything. He also said I take things as they come in the sense that I am able to deal with whatever comes my way. Lastly, the fifth person I interviewed said that I am headstrong. By this he meant that once I put my mind to something there's no turning back. I'll always complete whatever job is at hand no matter how long it takes.

Reflect on the differences.
Overall, I think that the friends and family members that I interviewed saw me in the same light that I see myself in. They all kind of said that I have determination and a strong drive in order to get things done. They mostly all agreed on the fact that I can think quickly on may feet and come up with solutions to big problems. Although they said I have some of the characteristic that I think I have, none of them really mentioned my sense of having business skills. I think this is because none of them really have seen how I act in a business setting and only see me on a day to day basis when I'm not being very serious. I don't think that I would change any of the items on my list because I think those are the ones that make me stand out the most.

  1. Daniel,
Having someone perceive yourself as the same that your think about yourself is a very good tool because it allows yourself to know where you stand and how you can get better. I do not know you but the characteristics that you said you have shows that you will be a strong business man in the future.

  2. Hi! It sounds like you have a set of personality traits that are very well suited to business. Its interesting that you say you’re a perfectionist. Do you feel that it mostly helps or hurts you in school? It would definitely help when writing long reports but its also a good skill in college to be able to sling out a discussion post in 15 minutes and I feel like perfectionism would prohibit that.

  3. Hi Daniel,

I think it is important as an entrepreneur to know your strengths and weaknesses. Being able to identify and work around these is what makes products better. Some of the qualities you mentioned such as the ability to solve problems are essential to an entrepreneur. The fact that you and your family both were able to pick out that you can solve problems means you know your best qualities and will use them to your advantage.
