Assignment 21A: Reading Reflection No. 2
- The Art of Social Media: Power Tips for Power Users, Guy Kawasaki
1) What was the general theme or argument of the book?
Throughout the entire book, Kawasaki gave insights into what a company or person should be doing in order to grow the social media aspect of their business or how to network while using social media. It gave many examples of things that are good to implement in your social media profiles and how to curate enough information in order to create or recreate content. They explained things such as how to generate more traffic through your social media platforms, get followers, create content, and how to react to comments and other forms of user communication.
2) How did the book, in your opinion, connect with and enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003?
If there is anything I have learned about being an entrepreneur from this class is that you need to be able to adapt your company or idea to the changing times or else someone else will and they might even do it better than you. This book was very interesting because it explained how to be active and grow your social media which has become a huge part of our generation's culture. If you do well on social media, your company is more likely to prosper and grow.
3) If you had to design an exercise for this class, based on the book you read, what would that exercise involve?
I think if I were to design an exercise based off this book, I would have the students create a website/instagram/twitter account for their business and try to see if they could get their name out there. They would have to generate a few posts explaining their company and maybe even draw up a few sketches of their product or business idea. They would then need to get a certain amount of followers by a certain period and any extra followers over that threshold would be extra credit.
4) What was your biggest surprise or 'aha' moment when reading the book? In other words, what did you learn that differed most from your expectations?
Before reading this book, I thought it would be important for you to come up with original content for your social media so that you would be able to stand out. However in the book, Kawasaki says that it takes too much time to come up with original content all the time so you should outsource and find content that you can tweak and make your own.
Daniel,
ReplyDeleteI also read the same book as you and it allowed me to expand my knowledge on advertising in the business world. Having social media is a great tool to expand your business and let people who do not know about your business, know more about it so you get more business.
Howdy Daniel,
ReplyDeleteSeeing how popular you could get on social media would be a cool social project that's very in line with our generation. I've seen that sort of project in some journalism classes that friends have taken. The issue you said the book brings up on original content reminds me of all the corporations' social media accounts tweeting out memes. It's effective and brings attention to the business.
Hi Daniel,
ReplyDeleteI think that your assigned reading is very interesting because in the modern, technological world social media is very important to entrepreneurs. I think that the exercise you came up with of having students create a social media presence is a great idea because nowadays digital marketing is one of the main ways that entrepreneurs are able to reach their target market.
